Common questions
Quick answers for parents and guardians using Bedtime Bee to make personalised picture books.
What is Bedtime Bee?
Bedtime Bee turns a photo, story idea, and reading preferences into an original illustrated storybook with optional narration.
What are Characters?
Characters is an iOS app feature that lets you save reusable toys, pets or people and add up to three extra characters alongside the hero of a story. The website story creator currently uses one photo per story and does not save a reusable character library.
Can I use branded toys?
You can use a toy photo as inspiration, but please give the toy an original nickname and do not request stories about existing characters, brands, franchises, logos, catchphrases, or branded worlds unless you have permission. Bedtime Bee is designed to create original family stories, not official stories from toy companies or entertainment brands.
Who should use the app?
Bedtime Bee is designed for parents and guardians to use with children. Children should use Bedtime Bee with adult supervision.
Can I use photos of people or pets?
Yes, in the iOS Characters feature. Only add a photo of another person if you have their permission or otherwise have authority to use it, including appropriate parent or guardian permission for a child. Photos must be suitable for a family story.
Where are saved Characters stored?
The reusable character library is stored in the app on that device and is not synchronised to your Bedtime Bee account. Saving a character does not by itself upload its photo. You can manage the library under Settings > Characters.
Are stories stored online?
Yes. Your online library is the main copy, so saved stories can be available across devices when you are signed in.
Can stories be stored on the iPad too?
Yes. In the app, open Settings, then Storage, and turn on offline copies. This stores an additional copy on that iPad. Removing offline copies does not delete your online library.
Can I delete a story?
Yes. Delete saved stories from the library. This removes the online story where supported and clears its offline copy from the device.
How do I delete a saved character?
In the iOS app, open Settings > Characters and delete the character. Settings > Storage > Reset this device removes the whole local character library, as does deleting the app. Deleting your online account does not by itself remove this separate on-device library.
What happens to character photos?
Saving a Character keeps its photo in the app on that device. When you use a photo to create a story, it is sent securely for temporary processing and deleted from Bedtime Bee’s systems when the job succeeds or fails, and no later than 15 minutes after submission. The raw photo is not stored with the online story, although the generated story may include the character’s name and illustrated appearance. See the Privacy Policy for more detail.
Why do stories sometimes take a while?
Bedtime Bee creates text, illustrations, and narration through several generation steps. Larger illustrated stories and audio can take longer, especially during busy periods.
Do I need a subscription?
No. The website offers a three-story pack for a one-time payment of £0.99. This is separate from subscriptions and purchases offered inside the iOS app.
Can I use my website story pack in the iOS app?
No. Website story packs are attached to your email-based website account and can be used only on the Bedtime Bee website. App Store purchases, iOS subscriptions, and in-app purchases remain separate.
Can I request a refund?
You can request a full refund within 14 days if you have not created a story from the pack. If an eligible technical problem stops a story, you can try again without reducing the number of stories remaining. Your statutory rights are not affected. Email [email protected] for help.
Does Bedtime Bee see my card details?
No. Web payments are handled by Stripe. Bedtime Bee receives payment status and transaction information but does not receive or store your full card number or security code.
How do I contact support?
